Dog sled Tours in Ilulissat

Daily tours ] 2 days tour ] 3 days tour ] 4 days tour ]

Ilulissat Tourist Nature offer a different range of dog sled tours In the Ilulissat area. Our experienced drivers (former fishermans) and their dogs have been travelling with sleds for years. In cold and long winters when the sea is frozen and it is difficult to sail, the fishermans uses the dog sled as a mean of transportation to get to the icefjord and back wit fish. Even with the introduction of the new and fast snowmobile, in Greenland where the mobile phone network does not cover the whole island and the temperature in the winter are in avarage 25 degrees celsius below zero, the dog sled is still the safest and most secure way to travel.

In Ilulissat there are approx 3500 greenland dogs (the greenland dog is one of the oldest breeds in the world and it has been proven that the dog first reached Greenland with the Saqqaq people 4000 years ago). Usually a sled is pulled by 10/12 dogs.

We can arrange from a short tour of an hour up to 10 day expedition to the glacier of Eqi Sermia 100 km north of Ilulissat.
