Fishing Tour

During the summer months Ilulissat Tourist Nature can arrange a fishing tour in the Disko bay area. There are different fishing tecniques, location and perios depending on the the fish. Please find below the list of fish that can be caught in the area.

Rose fish
The red fish are found off the coast at depths of 100 to 1000 metres. It can be up to 1 metre long. This fish can be caught with the Handlining method. This method consists of a single fishing line with a weight and one or more lure-like hooks are attached.

Seawolf
The seawolf or sea cat lives on the bottom of the sea and it can be caught with fishing rods.

Cod
The Handling method is used for fishing cods too. They can usually be found a few hundreds metres depth. Cod can also be caught with a fishing rod from the coast. The best period for fishing cods is September/October.

Arctic char
The Arctic char is related to both salmon and trout. In the months of June and July the Arctic char can be found in the sea and in lakes and rivers. The arctic char can be caught with baits from sea coast of from river side

Note:

- The price includes the trasfer by bus from the accommodation to the harbour and return.

- Non-residents are required to buy personal fishing licences prior to going fishing, which must be carried when fishing in Greenland. The cost of the licence is NOT included; 

- Depending on the sea, the weather and the ice conditions Ilulissat Tourist Nature can postpone or cancel the tour without previous notice.  

Angmassat Tour 

In the month of July the coast of the disko bay area are invaded by capelin in greeenlandinc Agmassat. The angmassat is a little fish in size between a sardine and a herring. This fish is very protein-rich and is very important for the Greenlandic in summer and winter. It can be dried, cooked, stewed and marinated. 

The boat will sail for the Agmassat tour at 10 am from Ilulissat harbour. Once reached the fishing spot you will be able to catch dozens of little fish with a net from shore. The guide will show how to clean them and how the locals dry them. After fishing the catch of the day will be grilled and served for lunch.Return to Ilulissat around 4pm.
