Rodebay

Oqaatsut which in greenlandic means " the cormorants".This village was called Rodebay by the Dutch whalers back in the 18th century, who named the trading post probably after the colour of the sea in the bay after a whale was killed. The settlement is located approximately  20km north of Ilulissat on a little peninsule facing the island of Disko.

Today Oqaitsut and his habitants work with tourists, that winter and summer, travel from Ilulissat to have an idea on how people of small greenlandic settlements live. From 1994 a small restaurant and hostel had been built where you can have a teste of fresh greenlandic product.
